NFL Week 4 teasers: Proven NFL expert ranks top teaser options, plus why to avoid Patriots vs. Cowboys
R.J. White, who finished up more than 35 units on NFL ATS picks from 2017-22, shares his top teaser plays for Week 4
Week 3's top two-team teaser cashed with the Steelers winning outright and the Jets covering the teased +8.5 number but not the normal spread. The favored options we liked teasing down both lost outright in the Jaguars and Ravens, so hopefully you took the top two legs or at least focused on the five underdogs we highlighted. Week 4 should be another fun week for teasers with another seven games featuring teasable spreads, and we'll get to all of them below.
If you've read my other content or followed my picks, you likely already know I've been SportsLine's No. 1 NFL against-the-spread expert over the last six years, going 535-450-30 against the spread to put me up more than 35 units on those picks at SportsLine since 2017. When it comes to teasers, we stress focusing on the options that go through Teaser Alley and ideally lining up with sides you already like against the main number.
If you don't know what Teaser Alley is, read on to find out. Even if you do, I'll go through every game where I believe there's a teaseable number, give you my analysis of whether it's worth putting in our bucket of potential plays, and then ranking those plays at the end, with the top two representing the best teaser play you can make this week. But if you disagree with any of the analysis for those two teaser legs, you have all the info you need to find other teaser-worthy options.
One game we won't be teasing is Patriots-Cowboys. The Cowboys are favored by 6.5 or 7 points in the market, and that's a number I don't like teasing in either direction. The market is telling us the Cowboys don't deserve to be favored by a full touchdown, and in those types of games you could definitely see the underdog pulling off the upset. We need each leg of our teaser to come in at least 74% of the time in order to be profitable on a -120 teaser, so you're basically looking to avoid situations where you can picture the other side hitting more than 25% of the time. Teams favored by 6.5 or 7 points are 47-19-1 SU since 2021, well short of that 75% mark. And teasing the other way by taking the Patriots works out even less often, with 24 of those 47 wins being at least 14 points. Essentially, if you have a solid feeling on either one of these teams, you should be playing them straight or potentially attacking a team total.
Now let's get to the teaser legs I do think are worth considering.
