Jets vs. Dolphins Week 15 NFL spread, odds: Miami's top three running backs – Myles Gaskin, Salvon Ahmed, Phillip Lindsay -- on COVID list
The surging Miami Dolphins could have a running back problem Sunday vs. the Jets.
Usually when teams come out of their bye week, there's good news health-wise. Not so much for the Miami Dolphins as all three running backs on the team's 53-man roster are in COVID protocols with Phillip Lindsay reportedly testing positive Monday and joining Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed, who were placed on the list over the weekend. The Dolphins currently are -8.5 at Caesars Sportsbook for Sunday's home game vs. the New York Jets.
If all three were to be ruled out, Miami also has Duke Johnson and rookie Gerrid Doaks on the practice squad. Another tailback, Malcolm Brown (33 carries for 125, yards, one TD), has missed the last six games due to a quad injury.
The news might not be that dire because Lindsay, Gaskin and Ahmed all are vaccinated. Thus, all three have a chance to test out of protocols with two negatives before Sunday. That Gaskin and Ahmed landed on the list last week makes it more likely they will play Sunday than Lindsay. Gaskin leads the team with 154 carries and 526 yards and is tied with QB Tua Tagovailoa with a team-best three rushing scores.
Ahmed has 54 carries for 149 yards. Lindsay started this season with the Texans but was released and signed by Miami. He had 12 carries for 42 yards in his Miami debut on Nov. 28 vs. Carolina and missed the Dolphins' Week 13 win over the Giants with an ankle injury but was expected to play vs. the Jets. The Fins are planning to work out running backs this week, including former Dolphin Lamar Miller, who hasn't had an NFL carry since 2018.
Meanwhile, receiver Will Fuller, who has been a mega-bust this season as a free agent, is not expected to come off injured reserve and play Sunday. Fuller has appeared in only two games this year.
At 6-7, Miami sits 13th in the AFC but has won five straight games. The schedule gets much tougher after the Jets with trips to New Orleans and Tennessee before hosing the Patriots in Week 18. To make the playoffs, the Fins are given odds of +750 with no at -1600. The SportsLine Projection Model pegs Miami's chances at just 3.0 percent.
The Dolphins beat the Jets 24-17 in Week 11. Gaskin rushed 23 times for 89 yards and Tua threw two TD passes. Joe Flacco was the New York QB that day, but it will be Zach Wilson on Sunday.
