Hawks vs. Heat Tuesday NBA play-in tournament odds, props: Bettors backing Miami on spread, fading Trae Young
Atlanta visits Miami in the first NBA play-in tournament game tonight.
The Atlanta Hawks put their 2-0 all-time record in NBA play-in tournament action on the line tonight when the Eastern Conference's No. 8 team visits No. 7 Miami, with the Heat up to -5.5 at BetMGM thanks to heavy spread action. Among the most-wagered props is Hawks star Trae Young Under 36.5 points + rebounds + assists. The winner plays at No. 2 Boston on Saturday in Game 1 of their first-round series, while the loser plays Friday at home vs. either Chicago or Toronto with one last chance to get in.Â
This is the third year of the play-in tournament and Miami's first time participating in it. Atlanta was the No. 9 last year and beat Charlotte and Cleveland to get into the East field as the No. 8 seed, losing to No. 1 Miami in five games. In the 2022 play-in tournament, the Hawks averaged 119.5 points on 50.6% shooting and won the two games by an average of 17.5 points.
Miami won three of four against the Hawks this season, including both in south Florida. As of this writing, 63% of spread bets and 62% of the handle are on the Heat, bumping them up from an open of -4.5. There hasn't been any movement on the total of 227.5 points, with 61% of the bets and 58% of the money on the Under.
Two of the three most-wagered props tonight are on Heat All-Star Jimmy Butler: Over 1.5 steals at +100 and Over 0.5 made 3-pointers at -130. Butler averaged 1.8 steals and 0.6 made 3-pointers during the regular season. Against the Hawks, he averaged 1.3 steals and 0.7 made 3-pointers.
Another popular prop is Young Under 36.5 points + rebounds + assists at -105. He averaged 26.2 points, a career-high 10.2 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game during the regular season, leading the league in total assists for a second straight season. Young became one of only seven players in NBA history to average at least 25.0 points and 10.0 assists in a single season, joining Oscar Robertson (five times), Russell Westbrook (twice), LeBron James, James Harden, Michael Adams and Tiny Archibald.
Miami is a very good defensive team and did well on Young in the season series, during which he averaged 19.8 points, 9.8 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game. Young sat out Atlanta's regular-season finale due to right groin soreness, but he's set to suit up against Miami.Â
