Best MLB bets today
San Diego Padres at Philadelphia Phillies (-220, 9): 6:35 p.m. ET
The Padres are in second place in the NL West at 45-38, but they have struggled away from home this season by dropping 24 of their 44 road contests. They have a tough task to start the week, as they play a three-game series in Philadelphia against the 49-35 Phillies.Â
To make matters worse for the Padres, they will face Phillies ace Zack Wheeler. Wheeler is 7-3 with a 2.45 ERA this campaign and has allowed one earned run or fewer in four consecutive starts.
Matt Waldron will be making his season debut on the mound for the Padres Monday. Last season, Waldron went 7-11 in 26 starts with a 4.91 ERA. He was dealing with an oblique strain earlier in the season and has been getting lit up in Triple-A since late May (5.24 ERA in 22.1 innings).Â
New York Yankees (-140, 8.5) at Toronto Blue Jays: 7:07 p.m. ET
Max Scherzer returned for the Blue Jays this past Wednesday after a three-month injury absence, allowing three runs in five innings against the Guardians. He'll face a struggling Yankees lineup that has been held to one run or fewer in eight of 26 June games.
New York will be sending out Carlos Rodon, who has gone 9-5 with a 2.92 ERA in 17 starts. After an incredible May in which he allowed just five runs in 30.2 innings, Rodon's June outings have resulted in 13 runs allowed (12 earned) in 29 innings.Â
