2020 NFL Draft odds: With the fifth pick, the Miami Dolphins likely select Tua Tagovailoa

It's widely assumed that the Miami Dolphins will pick a quarterback at No. 5 overall in the NFL Draft, and that could be Tua Tagovailoa.

The Miami Dolphins have three first-round picks in the 2020 NFL Draft thanks to previous trades with the Houston Texans and Pittsburgh Steelers, so the Fins could easily trade up to perhaps No. 3 with the Detroit Lions if they so desired.  However, for these purposes we will project the Fins to stand pat at No. 5 overall and that they will take Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa there.

That Tua is drafted by the Dolphins – doesn't matter at which spot – is a -150 yes-only prop at William Hill sportsbook. On the "which team will draft Tua Tagovailoa prop" the Fins are -150 favorites with the Los Angeles Chargers next at +250. Tua is also given an Over-Under draft position of 3.5, with the Over a -210 favorite

Some scouts have called Tua a potential left-handed version of Drew Brees because Tua is so accurate; he actually performs most tasks right-handed. On the CBS Sports Big Board, Tua is ranked as the No. 5 overall player and No. 2 quarterback behind LSU's Joe Burrow, who is going first overall to the Cincinnati Bengals. There has been some scuttlebutt that the Fins might try to trade up to No. 1 so they can take Burrow, but it would be a huge upset if the Bengals actually did that.

The 6-foot, 217-pound Tagovailoa didn't work out at the NFL Combine as he was still recovering from hip surgery that ended his junior season at Alabama early. That's the one knock on the Hawaiian: He can't stay healthy. He completed 71.4 percent of his passes in nine games last year for 2,840 yards, 33 touchdowns and just three picks for a rating of 206.9 that was first in the nation.

Believe it or not, only 32 left-handers have played quarterback in NFL history and the last southpaws to throw a regular-season pass in the league were Kellen Moore (Cowboys) and Michael Vick (Steelers) in 2015. The last lefty QB to be picked in the Top 10 of the draft was former USC Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart by the Cardinals in 2006, and he was a bust.
