2020 NFL Draft: Bettors leaning Tua Tagovailoa to Chargers and Justin Herbert to Dolphins

Could Justin Herbert be picked ahead of Tua Tagovailoa in the 2020 NFL Draft? Many bettors at William Hill sportsbook appear to think so.

The story line of every NFL Draft, no disrespect to all the other positions, is quarterback. It's the most important and sexiest position in sports, and every year betting action on the draft is heaviest on quarterback props than most other positions combined. That's no different for the 2020 draft – Round 1 is two weeks from today – at William Hill sportsbook.

It's common knowledge that LSU's Joe Burrow, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, is going No. 1 overall to the Cincinnati Bengals. But which quarterback goes next and to where? The teams currently picking second through fourth, the Washington Redskins, Detroit Lions and New York Giants, don't need a quarterback – although reports surfaced Thursday that the Lions are talking to teams about trading back.

Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa is considered the No. 2 quarterback prospect in this draft on the CBS Big Board with Oregon's Justin Herbert third. Herbert is a -200 favorite on the "third quarterback taken in the 2020 NFL draft" prop at William Hill with Tua at +250. However, 35 percent of the tickets issued on that wager have been on Tagovailoa going third among QBs, easily the most.

On the "which team will draft Tua Tagovailoa" prop, the Miami Dolphins, currently sitting at No. 5, are the -150 favorites followed by the Los Angeles Chargers (No. 6) at +250. There, 37 percent of the total money wagered has been on the Chargers. That's also the most and definitely surprising.

On the "which team will draft Justin Herbert" prop, the Chargers are +150 favorites and Dolphins at +160, but Miami has attracted a leading 38 percent of the total dollars wagered.

There likely would be little doubt that Tua would go ahead of Herbert if not for Tagovailoa's injury history and the fact NFL teams can't examine him. That both Tagovailoa and Herbert are Top 5 picks, which surely would require the Chargers to trade up from No. 6, is a yes-only prop at +200.
