2023 Genesis Invitational PGA Tour golf odds: Tiger Woods favored to miss cut in return from injury

In a bit of a minor surprise, Tiger Woods will tee it up in this week's Genesis Invitational in Los Angeles on the PGA Tour, one of the few tournaments he has played in multiple times over his career that he hasn't won. Woods' foundation hosts the event, but the all-time great was not expected to play. He is a +10000 long shot at Caesars Sportsbook to win as he plays his first official event since the 2021 British Open, and is -205 at FanDuel to miss the cut and +158 to make it.

The former Los Angeles Open is staged at one of the West Coast's top courses: Riviera Country Club, a par 71, at 7,322 yards. Riviera has hosted three major championships in its history and also will welcome the 2026 US Women's Open and 2028 Olympic golf competition.

Woods made his PGA Tour debut at Riviera in 1992 while he was a 16-year-old high school sophomore on a sponsor exemption and missed the cut by six shots. He last played this tournament in 2020 and finished 68th. He is +2000 for a top-5 finish, +900 for a top-10 and +360 for a top-20. He's had 13 starts at the event without a victory -- the most he's played any tournament without a win. Woods was in the Los Angeles area for the event in February 2021 when he suffered a major leg injuries in a car crash.

Riviera is not considered an easy walk and Woods has been battling plantar fasciitis, which forced him to miss his unofficial Hero World Challenge in December. Woods did team up with Rory McIlroy to play against Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas in a 12-hole competition in The Match on Dec. 10 followed by the 36-hole PNC Championship also in Florida, where he rode a cart while competing with his son Charlie.

Woods hasn't played in a non-major official event since the 2020 Zozo Championship and remains tied with Sam Snead for the most all-time PGA Tour wins with 82. It's hard to imagine Woods plays again on Tour before the 2023 Masters.

No tee times have been posted yet for the first two rounds. If you happen to be local, Woods' Pro-Am round on Wednesday is at 6:30 a.m. local time.

The Genesis Invitational is a designated event on the PGA Tour's revamped schedule with a $20 million purse. The field was expanded from 120 to 134 golfers. Chile's Joaquin Niemann became the tournament's first wire-to-wire winner in 53 years in 2022 but won't defend his title, as he's now on the LIV Series. Three-time tournament winner Bubba Watson is also on the LIV Series.

Jon Rahm is the +700 favorite and Rory McIlroy is +1000 – neither has won on this course. Both had been playing out of their minds recently before entering last week's WM Phoenix Open. Rahm finished T3 and McIlroy T32 to fall from No. 1 to No. 2 in the world behind Scottie Scheffler, who repeated at the Phoenix Open to jump back to No. 1 and is also +1000 this week. This is the final tournament on the West Coast Swing. The Tour heads to Florida next week.
