SDQL Gurus
Serious Scientists
SDQL Gurus are a team of serious scientists who use risk management, artificial intelligence, and the Sports Data Query Language (SDQL) database to capitalize on inefficiencies in the betting market. Overnight, the team runs 500 million SDQL queries, each of which describes a different handicapping situation, and outputs the top trends in past performance that apply to that day's slate. Dr. Edwin Meyer -- a PhD in physics who authored a six-part series for Card Player Magazine on how to beat NFL teasers -- leads the team. He gives classes in Vegas on the SDQL. In 2019, Meyer teamed up with Nate Bianco, aka the SDQL Kid, to win the Wise Guys Football Handicapping Contest. Dr. Meyer’s primary focus is using the SDQL to uncover conditions in which the betting line is significantly different from what it should be. His brother, Dr. Thomas Meyer, is a PhD in nonlinear physics and co-founder of the Prediction Company, a highly successful financial firm that specialized in predicting stocks and bonds. In 2019, he also began to focus his attention on sports, using years of AI expertise to uncover predictive relationships contained within sports data. Debuting with SportsLine in 2020, the SDQL Gurus went 39-22 (64 percent) on college basketball picks, returning $1,421 to $100 players in the abbreviated season. Then they crushed MLB, going 154-90 (63 percent), returning $1,566 to $100 players. For media inquiries, contact SportsLine@CBSInteractive.com.

Sacramento 96 @ L.A. Clippers 115 | 01/21 | 3:00 AM UTC

OVER 230

ANALYSIS: The Kings are 14-0 OU (+9.96 ppg) as an underdog after a game as a home underdog in which Buddy Hield made at least five 3-pointers. We have cashed numerous times with this one. As a team, the Kings are 16-0 OU (+16.16 ppg) with rest after a game in which they scored less than 15 percent of their points from free throws. The Clippers are 7-0 OU at home off a home game in which Kawhi Leonard was not the high scorer, flying over by an average of 21 ppg. We make the play the Over.

Orlando 97 @ Minnesota 96 | 01/21 | 1:00 AM UTC

Orlando -3.5

ANALYSIS: The Magic are 8-0 ATS (+8.81 ppg) after a game in which Aaron Gordon had a double-double and 9-0 ATS (+9.89 ppg) in their second straight road game and Nikola Vucevic has a double-double in each of their last two games. Minnesota was swept by the Magic last season and double revenge has not been a motivating factor for the T-Wolves, as they are 0-16 ATS (-7.53 ppg) as a dog with less than two days rest off a road game when they lost two straight vs their opponent. The Magic should be able to impose their will Wednesday.

Dallas 124 @ Indiana 112 | 01/21 | 12:00 AM UTC

Dallas -1.5

ANALYSIS: Luka Doncic scored 36 points vs the Bulls on Sunday, followed by 15 against the Raptors on Monday. This is a play-on indicator for Dallas, as the Mavericks are 6-0 ATS on the road when his scoring dropped by at least 15 points over their last two games. As a team, they are 27-0 ATS on the road with fewer than two days rest when they are off a road loss in which they scored more than 75 points and they are facing a team that has averaged at least five blocks and at least 8.25 offensive rebounds per game. Lay the small number.

Detroit 107 @ Miami 113 | 01/19 | 1:00 AM UTC

OVER 219

ANALYSIS: The Heat are 6-0 OU (+21.33 ppg) when Bam Adebayo has more free-throw attempts than shot attempts, 9-0 OU (+11.78 ppg) after a game as favorites in which Kelly Olynyk shot worse than 33 percent from the field and 6-0 OU (+17.00 ppg) at home after a game as home favorites in which Duncan Robinson had a negative plus/minus. With Detroit 9-0 OU (+9.06 ppg) following a win as an underdog against a team that is averaging less than four blocks per game, we make the play the Over.
