SDQL Gurus
Serious Scientists
SDQL Gurus are a team of serious scientists who use risk management, artificial intelligence, and the Sports Data Query Language (SDQL) database to capitalize on inefficiencies in the betting market. Overnight, the team runs 500 million SDQL queries, each of which describes a different handicapping situation, and outputs the top trends in past performance that apply to that day's slate. Dr. Edwin Meyer -- a PhD in physics who authored a six-part series for Card Player Magazine on how to beat NFL teasers -- leads the team. He gives classes in Vegas on the SDQL. In 2019, Meyer teamed up with Nate Bianco, aka the SDQL Kid, to win the Wise Guys Football Handicapping Contest. Dr. Meyer’s primary focus is using the SDQL to uncover conditions in which the betting line is significantly different from what it should be. His brother, Dr. Thomas Meyer, is a PhD in nonlinear physics and co-founder of the Prediction Company, a highly successful financial firm that specialized in predicting stocks and bonds. In 2019, he also began to focus his attention on sports, using years of AI expertise to uncover predictive relationships contained within sports data. Debuting with SportsLine in 2020, the SDQL Gurus went 39-22 (64 percent) on college basketball picks, returning $1,421 to $100 players in the abbreviated season. Then they crushed MLB, going 154-90 (63 percent), returning $1,566 to $100 players. For media inquiries, contact SportsLine@CBSInteractive.com.

L.A. Clippers 138 @ Sacramento 100 | 01/16 | 3:00 AM UTC

OVER 228.5

WIN

ANALYSIS: After a string of 10 straight losses to the Clippers, the Kings have now beaten them two straight. This is relevant because the Over is 9-0 when L.A. is a favorite with less than two days rest off a win as a favorite when it lost two straight against its opponent. The Clippers have scored 130-plus in each of their last three games in this spot. As for the Kings, we see that the Over is 14-0 when they are a dog with rest off a home game that had at least eight lead changes. We make the play the Over.

Dallas 109 @ Milwaukee 112 | 01/16 | 12:30 AM UTC

OVER 228

LOSS

ANALYSIS: Dallas is off a 104-93 win over the Hornets in which Luka Doncic scored 34 points. The Mavericks are a significant underdog here even though they have beat the Bucks two straight. The Over is 8-0 when Dallas is a dog after Doncic scored 28-plus points. Meanwhile the Over is 12-0 when Milwaukee is a regular season rested home favorite and has lost two straight against its opponent, as long as that opponent did not hold the Bucks to 88 points or fewer in both those losses. We are on the Over.

Indiana 111 @ Portland 87 | 01/15 | 3:00 AM UTC

Indiana +3

WIN

ANALYSIS: The Trail Blazers went all in for a 132-126 victory over Sacramento on Wednesday. CJ McCollum logged 42 1/2 minutes in a game that featured 12 lead changes. Over his career with Portland, the team is 0-10 ATS at home after a game as a favorite in which McCollum played more than 40 minutes. The Trail Blazers also are 0-8 ATS (-7.38 ppg) after a game as road favorites in which Damian Lillard made at least five 3-pointers and 0-8 ATS (-9.69 ppg) following a road contest in which they had more than eight times as many field-goal attempts as turnovers.

Charlotte 108 @ Toronto 111 | 01/15 | 12:30 AM UTC

UNDER 220

WIN

ANALYSIS: The Hornets are 0-16 OU on the road with less than two days' rest after a loss as underdogs in which they had a shot-per-turnover ratio of better than eight and 0-8 OU with less than two days' rest following a loss in which they never led. Toronto has a strong Under tendency against teams that get back on defense and block shots. The Raptors are 0-11 OU at home with extra rest after a road game versus a team that is getting less than 25 percent of rebounds on the offensive end and 0-11 OU with extra rest following a road contest against a team that's averaging more than five blocks per contest.

Portland 132 @ Sacramento 126 | 01/14 | 3:00 AM UTC

UNDER 236

LOSS

ANALYSIS: In Monday’s 112-111 win over the Raptors, Damian Lillard had four turnovers before he scored a point and finished with eight turnovers. This has been a big Under indicator, as the Under is 7-0 when the Blazers are on the road off a win in which Lillard had more turnovers than assists. The only game that did not stay Under by double-digits stayed Under by nine points after an overtime session. It is also worth mentioning that the Under is 11-0 when Portland is a road favorite off a win in which CJ McCollum was its high scorer. We are on the Under.
