The Rebels missed the playoffs last year in large part because of their upset loss to the Wildcats. Now, they look for a payback in a spot in which they appear to have an edge. Both clubs are rebuilding, particularly on offense, but Ole Miss already looks better in the post-Jaxson Dart era than Kentucky did in its opener against Toledo in which it amassed just 305 yards of total offense.
I make Ole Miss -13.5 in this "revenge" game, as Kentucky is the team that kept Ole Miss out of the College Football Playoff. I project the Wildcats to take a step backward this season, while early in the year is when I want to back Lane Kiffin. Kentucky should have a tough time scoring in this game.
Zach Calzada, who had been whipping the ball around pretty good for FCS Incarnate Word the past two years, did little of that in his UK debut last week vs. Toledo. Calzada spent most of the afternoon throwing dinks and dunks when he wasn’t tossing the ball sideways, a low-variance style that resulted in only 85 pass yards in 23 attempts, as Stoops and OC Bush Hamdan seemed more intent on establishing the run, which UK did fairly well (220 yards worth) led by Nebraska transfer Dante Dowdell’s 129 yards. Perhaps the plan is to slow this game as last year vs. Ole Miss, but note that the Cats never exceeded 20 points in SEC action last year. Play Ole Miss-Kentucky Under
This is a revenge game for Ole Miss who lost at home to Kentucky last season. Kentucky had 0 turnovers in that game, but then they have turned the ball over in each of their seven games since. We are going to treat that game last season as an aberration. Kentucky QB Zach Calzada went just 10-23 for 85 yards with 0 TDs and 1 INT. We have Ole Miss significantly winning the yardage and turnover battles and set the line at Ole Miss -15.
