One could make the case that this is a trap game for undefeated TCU. After facing four straight ranked opponents, the Frogs go to 3-4 West Virginia. But the Mountaineers' pass defense has been shredded recently. In its last three games, West Virginia has given up 1,112 yards and 10 touchdowns through the air. On Saturday the Mountaineers face a TCU offense that has NFL-caliber playmakers on the edge and a red-hot QB in Max Duggan. I'm on the Frogs.
Neither one of these defenses has shown much of an ability to stop anybody, and I don't expect them to start this week. The Horned Frogs are having an incredible season, but they've made a habit of letting teams stick around due to their inability to get off the field on defense. Meanwhile, the Mountaineers have plenty of flaws, but have shown an ability to move the ball through the air.
Championship-caliber teams can't consistently dig holes against good teams in the ways that TCU has over the last couple of weeks. Luckily for the Horned Frogs, the Mountaineers are far from good. The Horned Frogs are 4-1-1 against the spread this year, and the Mountaineers are coming off of a 48-10 shellacking by Texas Tech. What's more, the Mountaineers are 1-1 against the spread at home and this is a noon ET game. The early start combined with fan apathy will eliminate any semblance of a homefield advantage.
