You never know what you're going to get in this game. Lately, Oklahoma's defense is in tatters. Texas gets Quinn Ewers back at QB today, so that will help a Longhorn offense that is doing well anyway. The Sooners can still score, even if it can't keep up with their own defense. I think this game gets into the mid-30s for each team, so I like the over.
Neither of these teams are elite this season. The Texas Longhorns are getting their starting quarterback, Quinn Ewers, back this week which will help them, but this spread is too big. The Oklahoma Sooners have looked terrible the last two weeks. But now they get a familiar opponent who they have done well against. The Sooners have won the last four meetings and each of the last nine meetings have been decided by one possession. Expect this game to be close and for the Sooners to cover this spread.
This appears to be a great for spot for Texas to take a much-needed win in this rivalry, but unpredictability has been about the only constant in this matchup. Quarterback Dillon Gabriel is unlikely to go for the Sooners, who have no surefire second option, and they are banged up at other positions as well. Although both clubs are 3-2, Texas is a couple plays away from being undefeated while Oklahoma has been routed twice. Even so, the ATS outcome has always favored the underdog in this one. Look for another one-score contest Saturday.
Let me preface this by saying that strange things regularly happen in this game. Teams that have no business of winning often do. That said, the Sooners' injury report resembles a CVS receipt. Quarterback Dillon Gabriel is in concussion protocol after suffering a nasty hit on Saturday, and the Oklahoma offense looked punchless without him. Running backs Eric Gray and Marcus Major, receiver Theo Wease, left tackle Anton Harrison, left guard McKade Mettauer, center Andrew Raym, cornerback Jaden Davis and safety Billy Bowman are all banged up to some extent. In addition, the OU defense, in the first season under coordinator Ted Roof, suffered multiple busts in giving up 55 points to TCU. (The Sooners gave up 41 the previous week to K-State.) Texas coach Steve Sarkisian can exploit OU's deficiencies. Longhorns roll.
