One could argue that this is a trap game for App State, one week after upsetting Texas A&M in College Station. But there are two reasons why I don't expect a letdown from the Mountaineers: 1) This is a veteran App State team that is a couple of plays away from being 2-0 and 2) College GameDay's presence in Boone will assure the Mountaineers are focused on this game. They face a slow-starting Troy team that has scored just 10 first half points this season. Before what is expected to be another wild crowd, App State rolls.
First-year Troy coach Jon Sumrall is a former Troy assistant under Neal Brown who returned to the Trojans following a stint on the defensive staff at Kentucky. Just as the Wildcats turned their program around behind a base of solid defense, the Trojans appear determined to do the same. They gave a respectable performance at Ole Miss in Week 1 before blowing out Alabama A&M last week. Appalachian State has controlled this series with four straight blowout wins, but Saturday looms as a letdown spot on the heels of its massive upset of Texas A&M. Look for a stubborn Troy club to push this to the wire.
