But this is free money in a way, so the Scarlet Knights can throw caution to the wind. I'm not sure Wake Forest is all that thrilled about downgrading from Texas A&M to Rutgers. The Knights apparently will be without their top two running backs and No. 1 receiver. The Deacons did lose one of their 1,000-yard wideouts to an opt out.

This jury-rigged bowl matchup has all the trappings of a high-scoring affair — by one side. Wake’s 41.2 scoring average ranks fifth in FBS, while Rutgers’ defense was pushed around so badly (391.8 yards per game) that its coordinator was canned. The Scarlet Knights’ belated bid kept them off the practice field for a month until Christmas Day, leaving the defense little time to prepare. The 80-degree weather could leave the defenders gassed. If Rutgers can reach 20 points, it’s all Over.

The under has hit in seven of 11 games for the Scarlet Knights, and those were in normal scenarios. This game is far from normal. They had to have a crash course on the Demon Deacons to get ready for them after Texas A&M bowed out of the Gator Bowl, and that will cause multiple self-inflicted wounds. The under has hit in Wake’s last two games and two of the last three for Rutgers.
