The environment for this game is going to be outstanding, and after Texas' performance last week, it was not surprising to see this line jump from -4.5 to a full touchdown. Now that it has dipped slightly under the key number, it's worth making an attempt to believe in a Longhorns team that took care of a tough Louisiana squad last week and boasts an incredible game-controlling running back in Bijan Robinson. Arkansas may get some early momentum from the home crowd, but it does not have the offensive attack to combat Steve Sarkisian. Look for Texas to get the job done.
Texas was very impressive in its home opener beating a really solid Louisiana team. Arkansas started very slow before imposing its will in the second half against Rice. The Razorbacks were looking ahead to this game. Texas is coming off an emotional win in Steve Sarkisian's debut. This is one of the biggest home games in recent memory for the Razorbacks. Arkansas is 13-4 ATS vs. the Big 12 since 1993. The line seems 1.5 points too high, so let's take the home dog in this one!
The Longhorns defense was a liability last year but looked pretty good against Louisiana last week. That's not to say that it's a strength, but it is certainly good enough to slow down an erratic Razorbacks offense. Plus, first-year Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian will shut things down in the second half if he feels like the game is in control in order to get out of the hostile environment in Fayetteville.
I'm doing my best to keep myself from getting too hyped up about Texas this season, but I'm still high on the Longhorns. I thought they looked excellent against a solid Louisiana team last week, and I expect they'll get the best of Arkansas this weekend. Hog backers everywhere appreciate Arkansas' furious comeback to cover last week, but they should've never been in that position against a team like Rice. They won't get away with the same mistakes against Texas.
Fayetteville will be jumping for this old Southwest Conference rivalry. That excitement will subside once toe meets leather. Texas’ defense looked strong against a very potent and experienced Louisiana offense, and the Razorbacks’ passing attack left a lot to be desired against Rice. Emotion won’t be enough to keep this one close.
