Purdue in Michigan split wins this season but Purdue got the cover in both games. The Purdue loss at Michigan started a four-game losing streak and looked to continue a February trend of fizzling. But Purdue has stood up and been strong winning three of their last four games. They're the number 6 shooting team in the nation at 49.6% and the 13th-best 3-point shooting team at 38.7%. The three-point shot is what's going to get the cover for Purdue here.
There was a time this season when we thought Michigan had Final Four potential, before the Wolverines turned into a money-burner, covering just 2 of their last 15 games. What happened? It seems Michigan's offense has devolved into a two-man game with 7-foot transfers, ex-Yale Danny Wolf and ex-FAU Vladislav Goldin, running their screen-and-rolls. The rest of the offense, however, was tailed off, especially third leading scorer, ex-Auburn G Tre Donaldson, held to single digits in five of the last seven, hitting just 33% from the floor that span. Purdue split with the Wolverines but notched a 91-64 blowout at home on January 24, and has a game under its belt at Indy after last night's win over USC. Play Purdue (Big Ten at Indianapolis)
Purdue has really started to backslide at the end of the season as its interior defense has gotten exposed and offensively the Boilermakers are limited to a two-man game with Braden Smith and Trey Kaufman-Wren. Last night's game against USC was way closer than the spread expected, and I think Michigan is poised to prove Purdue's number might be a bit off given their recent form.
