ByUpdated: Aug 28, 2025 4:00PM UTC . 4 min read

The first full week of the college football season officially kicks off Thursday with a massive 17-game schedule. That's hardly all the sports on today, either, with eight MLB games, three WNBA contests and the U.S. Open's second round continuing. Bettors who sign up with the FanDuel promo code get $300 in bonus bets when they win their first bet of $5 or more, and this offer can be used on any of the top games today.

How to claim the FanDuel promo code

The FanDuel promo code is available exclusively to new FanDuel users who are of legal age in a state where the sportsbook operates and who have never made an account with the sportsbook. Want to sign up? Follow these steps:

  1. Click "CLAIM BONUS" on this page.
  2. Create a FanDuel Sportsbook account by entering all required information.
  3. Deposit at least $5 into your account.
  4. Bet at least $5 with your first wager at any odds on any market.

If your first bet at FanDuel wins, you will be credited $300 in bonus bets within 72 hours of your first bet settling as a win to use on any of the top college football, MLB or WNBA games this week. Bonus bets can't be withdrawn, as they hold no cash value, and they expire after seven days. Bets won using bonus bets only return the winnings and not the stake.

Best bets for Thursday, August 28

One 2024 College Football Playoff team takes the field on Thursday as Boise State visits South Florida at 5:30 p.m. ET. Boise State is a 5.5-point favorite, and the total is 61.5 points. The Broncos had a great season last year, making the CFP behind a historic season by running back Ashton Jeanty. Jeanty is now in the NFL, but quarterback Maddux Madsen returns after throwing for over 3,000 yards and 23 touchdowns to just six interceptions. As for the Bulls, they went 7-6 last year and return key dual-threat QB Byrum Brown as well as other playmakers on offense. The big question is defense, where USF was among the country's worst last year. The SportsLine Projection Model, which simulates every college football game 10,000 times, likes the Broncos to cover -5.5, with Boise State covering the spread in 66% of simulations.

Another intriguing clash is between two Carolina schools, with East Carolina visiting North Carolina State. The Wolfpack are 14-point favorites over the Pirates, and the total is 61.5 points. ECU knocked off NCSU in bowl action last year, and first-year head coach Blake Harrell went 5-1 as the interim head coach last season. As for the Wolfpack, they've won 27 of their last 28 non-conference home games and are looking for a better season than last year, when they went 6-7 and won their fewest games since 2019. The model likes the Under in this one, as Under 61.5 hits in 68% of simulations.

On the diamond, the Braves visit the Phillies in an NL East clash. Philly is looking for a bounce-back series after dropping its last series to the Mets, while the Braves are just looking to get across the finish line after an incredibly porous 2025 campaign. Cal Quantrill (4-11, 5.51 ERA) starts for Atlanta in the series opener, while the Phillies start Aaron Nola (2-7, 6.52 ERA). Quantrill is making just his second start for Atlanta after starting the year in Miami, and he allowed three runs in 4.2 innings to the Mets in his last start. Nola is making his third start since coming off a lengthy injured list stint. He got rocked for six runs in 2.1 innings in his first start back before allowing two earned runs in six innings against Washington his last time out. With Zack Wheeler lost for the year, the Phillies need Nola to return to form. The SportsLine Projection Model, which simulates every MLB game 10,000 times, likes the Braves on the money line at +158, as Atlanta wins in 48% of model simulations, good for an 'A' grade.
