Best bets for Friday, June 20
The National League Central-leading Cubs host the Mariners in the first game of the day and first game of a three-game series between these two interleague foes. It's an intriguing pitching matchup between two starters on their games of late as George Kirby (1-3, 5.96 ERA) starts for Seattle while Chicago turns to veteran lefty Matthew Boyd (6-3, 2.79 ERA). Kirby got lit up his first two starts of the year after starting 2025 on the injured list, but he's allowed six earned runs in 17 innings over his last three outings. Boyd has been even better, allowing six earned runs in 25.1 innings over his last four starts. The Cubs are the favorites at home Friday afternoon, and the SportsLine Projection Model has them winning in 60% of simulations, bringing value at their -141 money-line odds.Â
The National League East hosts arguably the best series of the weekend as the Mets and Phillies do battle with first place on the line. Both squads are 45-30 entering Friday, and the Phillies are red hot while the Mets have scuffled a bit of late. Philadelphia holds the pitching edge in the series' first game as former Met and current Phillies ace Zack Wheeler, (7-2, 2.76 ERA) while rookie Blake Tidwell (0-1, 14.73 ERA) makes just his second career start. The model's top play for this NL East showdown is Over 8.5 total runs, with that hitting in over 60% of simulations.
The Bay Area is home to one of the more intriguing matchups Friday night as the Giants host the Red Sox. San Francisco just acquired Devers, a three-time All Star, last Sunday from Boston after a strained relationship between the two parties over the last few months. Two youngsters start in this matchup with rookie Hunter Dobbins (4-1, 3.74 ERA) going for the Red Sox and the Giants countering with Hayden Birdsong (3-1, 2.79 ERA). The Giants are -132 favorites on the money line to Boston's +110, and the model has Over 7.5 total runs scored rated as a 'B' grade for Friday, with that hitting in roughly 60% of simulations. The model also has Devers' Over 0.5 RBI (+133) as a 4-star prop play.
