Best bets for Wednesday, July 30
The Brewers have been the best team in baseball for a few weeks now, and they now have the best record in MLB and have taken control of the National League Central. They've leapfrogged the Cubs for the NL Central lead and can secure a three-game sweep with a win on Wednesday. The series finale features a stellar pitching matchup with lefty Shota Imanaga (7-4, 3.12 ERA) starting for Chicago and Milwaukee turning to Freddy Peralta (12-4, 2.81 ERA). Imanaga is looking for a bounce-back start after allowing seven runs and 12 hits in his last start against the White Sox. Peralta gave up a run over five innings to the Marlins in his most recent outing. The SportsLine Projection Model, which simulates every MLB game 10,000 times, is backing the Brewers at +1.5 as they cover in 69% of simulations.Â
The NL East-leading Mets will look to avoid a sweep at the hands of the Padres, who hold the third and final wild card spot in the National League. Yu Darvish (0-3, 9.18 ERA) will look to get on track for San Diego when he gets the ball, while the Mets turn to Clay Holmes (9-5, 3.40 ERA). Darvish hasn't been particularly sharp since returning from the IL, and his last outing was a rough one as the veteran got tagged for eight runs in just 3.1 innings against the Cardinals. Holmes gave up just one run over five innings against the Giants in his last start. The model likes the Padres on the money line (-110) in this one, as they win in 53% of simulations.
The top two teams in the WNBA this season meet in a highly anticipated clash when the Lynx (22-5) host the defending champs, the Liberty (17-8), at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN. These two squads have yet to meet this season, but this is the first of four matchups between the two juggernauts between now and Aug. 19. WNBA expert Max Meyer has logged his best bets for Wednesday's WNBA slate over on CBS Sports, and he's got a bet on the spread as well as a prop bet for Jonquel Jones as part of his picks.
