While Arizona is running away with both the Big 12 and the top spot in the rankings, the Kansas Jayhawks and Texas Tech Red Raiders are both strong contenders to make deep runs in this year's NCAA Tournament and should threaten the Wildcats in the conference tourney. The Jayhawks and Red Raiders (No. 14 and No. 11 in last week's AP Poll, which will be updated today) meet in Lubbock on Monday for a clash of top-flight squads. Kansas, led by star Darryn Peterson, took down BYU and AJ Dybantsa on Saturday for the Jayhawks' fifth consecutive win. Texas Tech comes off a loss to UCF, but prior to that took down No. 6 Houston. The SportsLine Projection Model, which simulates every game 10,000 times, unsurprisingly expects a tight game. Texas Tech covers in 51% of the model's simulations.Â
Joel Embiid and Kawhi Leonard were both snubbed from the NBA All-Star Game, and the two oft-injured stars may take out their frustration on each other when the Philadelphia 76ers visit the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday. Philadelphia (27-21) sits sixth in the Eastern Conference, while Los Angeles (23-25) is ninth in the West. The Clippers need to start banking wins, and the SportsLine model expects that to begin on Monday, as Los Angeles covers in 69% of the simulations and wins in 72%.Â
