Cowboys vs. Giants NFL Week 1 betting preview
The Cowboys kicked off the Brian Schottenheimer era with a 7-9-1 record, and the team was a bit of an extreme one last year. Offensively, Dallas was fantastic. The team ranked second in yards gained and seventh in points scored. Defensively, however, no team allowed more points than the Cowboys at 30.1. The pass defense was especially an issue, so all eyes will be on rookie safety Caleb Downs after he was selected in the first round following a stellar career at Ohio State. The Cowboys selected defensive end Malachi Lawrence with their other first-round pick and they have a new defensive coordinator in Christian Parker, a former secondary coach in Philadelphia.
New York will be a team worth watching all year long. The young talent the team has is undeniable with quarterback Jaxson Dart, running back Cam Skattebo and receiver Malik Nabers. The team also has Brian Burns and rookie Arvel Reese on defense. After years of struggles under Brian Daboll, he's been replaced by longtime Ravens head coach John Harbaugh, who was let go by Baltimore after 18 years there. He inherits a Giants team that many now peg to be a sleeper in 2026, but keeping their young talent healthy will be key this year. Harbaugh brings with him much of his staff from Baltimore, so there's some continuity on that front worth monitoring. New York was 26th in points allowed last year and 17th in points scored.
These teams met twice last year, with Dallas winning an epic 40-37 overtime shootout in Week 2 before the Giants ended the season with a 34-17 win in Week 18 at home. The SportsLine Projection Model, which simulates every NFL game 10,000 times, expects another high-scoring affair as these teams clear 48.5 total points in nearly 60% of model simulations.
