Best bets for Sunday Night Football at DraftKings
Seattle has already equaled its total losses from last season as only two NFL teams have more turnovers than its 12. However, the Seahawks have taken the ball away 11 times and have arguably the league's best defense. The Seahawks allow 237.3 yards per game, with the next-best unit in the NFL allowing almost 260. Opponents are scoring on them more than they did last season, with Seattle tied for seventh in allowing 20.3 points per game. The offense is 16th in the NFL in total yards (332.2 ypg) and 13th in scoring (24.7 ppg). Quarterback Sam Darnold has been struggling under pressure, as he has as many interceptions as TD passes with seven each, and has thrown for 1,033 yards.
Darnold has been hampered by a lack of playmakers beyond star receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who has 717 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. He has 49 receptions, with Cooper Kupp having the second-most on the team with 16. The lack of running game with Zach Charbonnet and rookie Jadarian Price injured has also been a problem, as Emanuel Wilson is averaging 3.5 yards per carry for Seattle. On defense, Ernest Jones IV, Byron Murphy II and Leonard Williams all have three sacks as the unit has posted 16 in six games.
That struggling Seattle running game can be blamed in large part on the running back now helping lead the resurgent Chiefs offense. Kenneth Walker III was named Super Bowl MVP for the Seahawks in February before moving on to Kansas City in free agency. Walker has an NFL-high 665 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns in five games. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes also is showing no ill effects from the torn ACL that knocked him out late last season, and tight end Travis Kelce has been making big plays. Kelce leads the team with 299 receiving yards and has scored twice, while Xavier Worthy has a team-high 21 catches. Mahomes has 1,309 passing yards, with seven TD passes and three interceptions.
The Chiefs defense is also formidable, as it is second in the NFL in allowing just 16.6 points per game. It is also eighth in total yards, giving up 306.0 per game, with only 88.8 coming on the ground (sixth). The unit has only eight sacks, with George Karlaftis and Ashton Gillotte among six players with one, and nine takeaways. Kansas City does have 29 tackles for loss, with linebackers Nick Bolton and Drue Tranquill combining for seven among their 84 combined tackles.
The SportsLine Projection Model, which simulates every NFL game 10,000 times, has Seattle winning in 57% of its simulations and covering the spread at a 53% rate. Over 43.5 hits 55% of the time. Kansas City is 3-2 against the spread this season, going 1-1 ATS on the road, and three of its five games have gone Under the total. The Seahawks are 3-3 on the Over/Under, going Over in two of three home games, and 1-3-2 ATS (0-1-2 ATS at home).
