Best bets for Wednesday, June 18
With 15 games on the schedule, there's no shortage of MLB games to watch and wager on all day Wednesday. The action begins in the Pacific Northwest at 4:10 p.m. ET where the Seattle Mariners host the Boston Red Sox in the final game of a three-game series. Boston won 2-0 Monday before Seattle bounced back with an 8-0 win Tuesday. Wednesday will decide the series winner, and it's a great pitching matchup as the Red Sox send out star lefty Garret Crochet (6-4, 2.24 ERA) while the Mariners counter with Luis Castillo (4-4, 3.29 ERA). The Red Sox are -120 favorites for Wednesday's series finale in the latest SportsLine consensus odds, but the model likes the Mariners on the money line with the home team winning in 63% of simulations.Â
It's been a rough start to 2025 for the Braves, who have typically been among the National League's best over the last decade. They sit at 32-39 as they host the Mets, who are 45-28, at 7:15 p.m. ET. Atlanta won the series opener 5-4 Tuesday thanks to an Austin Riley walkoff sacrifice fly. Despite the lopsided difference in record, the Braves are favored at -187 in the latest SportsLine consensus odds, largely because reigning Cy Young Award winner Chris Sale gets the ball for Atlanta while Paul Blackburn starts for New York in just his fourth appearance of 2025. The model has the Mets winning in 40% of simulations, bringing value at their +155 odds on the money line.
The Dodgers can secure a series win at 10:10 p.m. ET Wednesday with another victory against the Padres, who have dropped the first two games of this four-game set. This series is always notable as these two NL West teams have formed quite the rivalry in recent years, but also because Shohei Ohtani returned to the mound for the first time in roughly two years in the series opener. We won't see Ohtani on the mound Wednesday but he will in the batter's box, where he's looking for a bounce-back game after striking out in each of his four at-bats Tuesday. The Padres have the pitching edge Wednesday with Stephen Kolek on the mound as the Dodgers will start Emmet Sheehan in his first MLB appearance since 2023. The Padres win 40% of model simulations at +167 odds, bringing value compared to the Dodgers at -202.
