Friday features two NFL preseason games with the Titans visiting the Falcons and the Seahawks hosting the Chiefs. Tennessee lost big last week to Tampa Bay, but No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward played well early, leading the Titans to their lone scoring drive. As for Atlanta, quarterback Michael Penix Jr. will not play in the Falcons' second preseason game after he also sat out last week. In the later game, the Seahawks take on the Chiefs in a game that has some intrigue on the Seattle side. Last week, most Seahawks starters sat out. That won't be the case this week, which means Sam Darnold will make his Seattle debut after coming over from Minnesota in free agency after a breakout 2024 campaign for the Vikings. The Chiefs played starters last week, with Patrick Mahomes just a single pass for one yard, though it was a touchdown, but it's not clear yet whether he and other notable players will take the field Friday night.

On the diamond, there are many intriguing matchups on Friday, including the Seattle Mariners facing the New York Mets. The Mariners have played well since the trade deadline and hold the top AL Wild Card spot and are 1.5 games back of the Houston Astros in the AL West. The Mets had been neck-and-neck with the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East, but they've dropped nine of their last 10 and now are five games back of their rival are only a half-game up on the Cincinnati Reds for the third NL Wild Card spot. It's a matchup of veteran pitchers as right-hander Luis Castillo (8-6, 3.19 ERA) starts for Seattle while New York hands the ball to southpaw Sean Manaea (1-1, 4.33 ERA). Castillo allowed two runs over seven innings against Tampa Bay in his last start while Manaea has allowed nine runs across 9.2 innings between his last two outings. The SportsLine Projection Model, which simulates every MLB game 10,000 times, is backing the Mariners on the money line at +102 as Seattle wins in 54% of simulations.

The WNBA had no games Thursday, but that changes in a big way Friday with five games. There's plenty of intrigue on Friday, with top games featuring the Aces facing the Mercury and the Dream taking on the Storm. WNBA experts Calvin Wetzel and Aaron Barzilai have issued their WNBA best bets for Friday, which includes backing one side of the spread for tonight's Storm vs. Fever matchup.
