Best bets for Sunday, August 10
The first full week of the NFL preseason concludes Sunday with the Chicago Bears hosting the Miami Dolphins and the New Orleans Saints visiting the Los Angeles Chargers. Chicago is a team to watch this year with second-year QB Caleb Williams joining forces with new head coach Ben Johnson, the former offensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions. While fans are excited to see those two together, they'll have to wait, as Williams isn't going to start this first preseason game for Chicago. If you're looking for an intriguing quarterback battle, look no further than the Saints, who will start second-year QB Spencer Rattler against the Chargers before turning things over to second-round rookie Tyler Shough.Â
A potential World Series matchup concludes Sunday when the Toronto Blue Jays visit the Los Angeles Dodgers. L.A. took the first game 5-1 on Friday and grabbed the Saturday's contest 9-1. Tyler Glasnow (1-1, 3.06 ERA) gets the start for the Dodgers, while the Blue Jays hand the ball to lefty Eric Lauer (7-2, 2.59 ERA). Glasnow gave up just one run in seven innings in his last appearance, while Lauer is coming off seven innings of one-run ball as he continues his surprisingly stellar 2025 campaign after not appearing in a single MLB game last year. The SportsLine Projection Model, which simulates every MLB game 10,000 times, is tabbing Blue Jays +1.5 as an "A" grade play. Toronto covers in 66% of simulations.
The WNBA has a loaded Sunday slate with 10 teams taking the court. Calvin Wetzel and Aaron Barzilai have issued their WNBA best bets for SportsLine, and one of their picks involves the spread for the Dream-Mercury game.
