Best bets for Sunday, August 3
The Phillies and Tigers meet in the third-game of their three-game series on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball at 7:10 p.m. ET to wrap up the day's action. The Phillies took Game 1 on Friday by a final score of 5-4. Saturday's game featured a stellar pitching matchup when Detroit started Tarik Skubal and Philly countered with Zack Wheeler. The Tigers won that game 7-5, and now, both teams will aim to secure a series win Sunday night. Veteran right-hander Charlie Morton (7-8, 5.42 ERA) makes his first start for the Tigers while lefty Christopher Sanchez (9-3, 2.55 ERA) starts for Philadelphia. Morton came to Detroit ahead of the trade deadline in a deal with the Orioles, while Sanchez has been one of the better starters in the National League this year. The SportsLine Projection Model, which simulates every MLB game 10,000 times sees value in backing the Tigers, who are +155 underdogs, as they win in roughly 40% of model simulations.
As for the WNBA, one of the top games sees the Fever head to Seattle to face the Storm at 3 p.m. ET. The Fever are once again without superstar guard Caitlin Clark, as the second-year phenom is battling a sever groin injury she suffered just before the All-Star Break in what's been a largely lost season as she's missed considerable time with multiple injuries. The Fever are still 16-12, however, good for third place in the Eastern Conference. The Storm enter Sunday 16-12 and in third place in the Western Conference. WNBA expert Max Meyer has logged his best bet for this game over on CBS Sports, and he's targeting a key Storm player's total points prop.Â
