Best bets for Friday, July 11
The SportsLine Projection Model has one 'A' grade for today's MLB slate, which comes in a matchup between the Seattle Mariners and Detroit Tigers. The Mariners are coming off a tough series in New York where they were swept by the Yankees to fall out of a Wild Card spot. As for the Tigers, they've been the best team in baseball this year and could become the first team to win 60 games in 2025 with a win on Friday. The pitching matchup should be great as three-time All-Star Luis Castillo (5-5, 3.31 ERA) starts for Seattle while Detroit has reigning Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal (10-2, 2.02 ERA) on the mound. The model is backing the visiting Mariners on the spread, as Seattle covers at +1.5 in 64% of model simulations at -112.
Caitlin Clark returned to the Fever lineup on Wednesday against the Golden State Valkyries, but the 2024 No. 1 overall pick scored just 10 point sin 25 minutes as Indiana fell 80-61. Clark and Co. will look to get a win Friday when they face the Dream at 7:30 p.m. ET. WNBA experts Calvin Wetzel and Aaron Barzilai have logged their best bets and picks for Friday's Fever and Dream matchup, including on the spread. Be sure to check out their picks for Friday here.
The semifinals for the men's side of Wimbledon began this morning as two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz beat Taylor Fritz and he will face the winner of the matchup between seven-time Wimbledon champ Novak Djokovic and World No. 1 Jannik Sinner. On the women's side, Saturday's final is set as five-time major champion Iga Swiatek will take on Amanda Anisimova, who upset Aryna Sabalenka, the No. 1 seed, in the semifinals.Â
The final PGA tournament before next week's Open Championship is underway with the Scottish Open. The second round began early Friday morning and Chris Gotterup is in first place by himself at -11 after shooting 61, which tied the course record. Harry Hall is in second at -9 while Matt Fitzpatrick and Marco Penge are tied for third at -8. Rory McIlroy is tied for fifth at -7 and Xander Schauffele is tied for 11th at -6.
