Best bets for Wednesday, August 20

The Astros and Tigers wrap up their three-game series with Detroit looking to secure a three-game sweep in this battle of division leaders. The Tigers won 10-0 on Monday before again shutting out the Astros on Tuesday, this time a 1-0 win in extras. Star lefty Framber Valdez (11-6, 3.01 ERA) starts for the Astros, while the Tigers turn to right-hander Charlie Morton (8-10, 5.20 ERA). Valdez has been great this year once again for Houston, but he's had three straight sub-par outings, allowing at least four runs in each. As for Morton, he's been good in two of his last three starts, allowing one earned run in six innings three starts ago and pitching six scoreless his last time out, with 4.1 innings of six-run ball sandwiched between those two outings. The SportsLine Projection Model, which simulates every MLB game 10,000 times, is backing the Tigers to get the sweep as Detroit wins this game in 54% of simulations at +102 odds, good for a 'B' grade.

The Cubs and Brewers meet for the fourth game of a rare five-game regular-season series on Wednesday, and Chicago can secure a series win on Wednesday after sweeping a doubleheader on Tuesday. Tuesday was just the second time in the second half that Milwaukee has lost consecutive games, but the Brewers still hold a seven-game lead in the NL Central over Chicago. Hard-throwing rookie Jacob Misiorowski (4-1, 3.89 ERA) makes his second start for Milwaukee since coming off the injured list and will face Colin Rea (9-5, 3.99 ERA). Misiorowski allowed five runs in just 1.1 innings in his last start against Cincinnati, while Rea gave up one run to Pittsburgh across five innings in his last start. The SportsLine Projection Model is leaning Over 7 runs in this one, with that side of the total hitting in 60.3% of simulations at -101 odds.

The WNBA's lone game on Wednesday sees the Wings visit the Sparks. Dallas has the worst record in the Western Conference this year, while Los Angeles is trying to work its way back up the standings. WNBA expert Max Meyer has shared his best bets for Wednesday, and he's targeting a prop bet for Paige Bueckers, the No. 1 pick in this year's draft.
