The Disney days of Ducks ownership are in the past but Anaheim games are resembling Big Thunder Mountain the Matterhorn Bobsleds as their games have taken on a Disnelyland thrill-ride feel. Wednesday's wild 6-5 win over Edmonton was the latest and a reminder that the Ducks are picking up where they left off before the Ollympic break when they won nine of eleven. Leo Carlsson is back and in the middle of things as usual with a goal and two assists vs. Edmonton, and despite his Olympics heroics, Connor Hellebuyck's form in goal for the Jets this season (2.79 GAA) is beneath his usual Vezina-caliber standards. Play Ducks on ML
Feels a bit unpatriotic to fade Connor Hellebuyck after what he did for Team USA in the Games ("Blame Canada"), but the Jets are fairly banged up. Helly has been good but not great this NHL season; 7-11 away including OT/SO losses. Might be the biggest flat spot in his life after the White House, etc. Anaheim has won three straight (includes pre-break) and has totaled 14 goals in those. It also won the first meeting, 4-1. The Ducks' Mikael Granlund (27 points) missed the crazy 6-5 win over Edmonton on Wednesday but is likely back. Anaheim is becoming one of my favorite non-Blackhawks teams to watch -- and is way ahead of Chicago, sadly, in a return to being a contender.
