New York is really slumping but it still has such a talented roster that I feel obligated to play at least a half-unit on +1.5 even as well as the Devils and Jacob Markstrom are playing. In rivalry games, you can generally throw out records, and the Rangers' Jonathan Quick is more than capable of stealing the game himself.

Here's a matinee at the Rock as we notice a change in Ranger scorelines, much lower the past ten days than we had been seeing much of November-December. This might be a conscious effort by Peter Laviolette to slow the pace in order to protect a defense that has mostly failed this season. It's also tamped down the Rangers scoring, as they've scored just nine goals across the past five games. Jonathan Quick (2.47 GAA, a bit off in December) is back in the nets on Monday in Newark. Meanwhile, there isn't a hotter goalie at the moment than the Devils' Jacob Markstrom, off of a shutout over the Penguins and with a 1.14 GAA and .942 saves in seven December starts.
