The Canes are a completely different team at home, and luckily for them, the Rangers are a completely different team on the road. Only winning at home is a dangerous game because you lose a road game and all of a sudden you lose a series. However, the Canes are the better team, and they should get back to form on home ice. Being at home also helps the backup goalie for the Canes settle down. This is playoff hockey so literally anything can happen, and I wouldn’t be surprised. But the Canes should keep this home winning streak intact, and I think this line will rise a bit tomorrow, so I am playing it now.
I'd like to take the Rangers puckline for Thursday's game but not at -230. It's crazy how bad the Canes have been on the road in these playoffs. They have joined the 1992 Canadiens and 1976 Maple Leafs as the only teams to start the playoffs with five straight road losses. Yet Carolina is unbeaten at home, and Antti Raanta has been almost untouchable there. Have to stay with the trend. New York is 0-5 in its past five as an underdog.
The Hurricanes return home with the series tied at two games apiece. Carolina out-shot New York in both road games, while winning 59% of the face-offs in Game 3 and 65% in Game 4. In fact, New York is ranked last in shots allowed and last in face-off win percentage across all playoff teams. Carolina is 8-3 after losing two or more games in a row this season, and 7-3 in their past 10 games vs. the Rangers. The Hurricanes were -175 by opening face-off in Game 1. Good value. Take the home team!
