Super Bowl 57 odds: Patrick Mahomes' Chiefs favored over Bills, Rams, Bengals to win 2023 Super Bowl in Arizona

Off a crushing playoff loss, the Kansas City Chiefs are +650 favorites to win Super Bowl 57.

We obviously will have plenty of coverage of the Rams-Bengals Super Bowl 56 here at SportsLine, but there already are odds up at Caesars Sportsbook to win Super Bowl 57, which is scheduled for Feb. 12, 2023, at State Farm Stadium outside Phoenix. Neither the Rams nor Bengals will be favored to repeat regardless of which wins SB 56 as Kansas City is the +650 betting leader despite the epic collapse Sunday in the AFC Championship Game against the Bengals.

In NFL playoff history, teams with at least an 18-point lead in a home playoff game had been 163-3 but Kansas City couldn't hold a 21-3 first-half lead in the 27-24 overtime loss. The Chiefs topped out with a win expectancy of 95 percent after building that 18-point lead.

Mahomes was nearly perfect in the first half with a QBR or 98.0 (100 is perfect) but in the second half and OT, his number was 1.4. That's the largest gap in a player's QBR by half in the playoffs since QBR tracking began in 2006 (minimum of 10 attempts each half). Mahomes was attempting to become only the fourth quarterback in NFL history to start in at least three consecutive Super Bowls.

"In the second half we were just off a tick and that's all it takes to lose a football game," Mahomes said. "I've got to be better. We were up 21-3 at one point and you can't lose it. I put that on myself."

Against Joe Burrow, Mahomes is 0-2 in his NFL career when leading a game by at least 14 points. Against all other quarterbacks/teams, he's 39-2.

As long as No. 15 in his prime, the Chiefs are going to be preseason Super Bowl favorites. Kansas City does have some key free agents, led by offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr., running backs Darrel Williams and Jerick McKinnon, receiver Byron Pringle, safety Tyrann Mathieu, cornerback Charvarius Ward, cornerback Mike Hughes and pass-rusher Melvin Ingram. Spotrac projects Kansas City with about $15.4 million of salary cap space.

Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills, who should have won in Kansas City in the Divisional Round, are +700 second favorites for Super Bowl 57 with the Rams next at +1000 and then the Bengals +1200.

Caesars oddsmakers clearly don't think Tom Brady is retiring or the Bucs would have much longer odds of +1400. The 49ers also are +1400 as they are expected to start the Trey Lance era under center.

Back in the summer, the Bengals were as long as +12500 to win Super Bowl 56. The lone team at that price for SB 57 is the New York Giants. Houston, Detroit and the Jets are +20000 long shots.
