Seahawks bring back receiver Josh Gordon; could Jadeveon Clowney be next to return?

Former Pro Bowl wideout Josh Gordon has re-signed with Seattle, and it could be that Jadeveon Clowney is next.

Former All-Pro wide receiver Josh Gordon has yet to be reinstated by the NFL from his latest suspension, but the Seattle Seahawks must believe that reinstatement is coming very soon as they re-signed Gordon on Thursday to a one-year contract for around $1 million. ESPN is reporting that Gordon's reinstatement is "imminent."

It was common knowledge that the Seahawks were going to add a wideout before the season started because they are incredibly thin at that position behind Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf. Perhaps the final impetus to get Gordon was the fact that projected No. 3 wideout Phillip Dorsett has been dealing with foot soreness and that Coach Pete Carroll was "monitoring" his training camp reps.

Seattle had been linked to Antonio Brown, and Russell Wilson had worked out with Brown and pushed for his signing, but Brown is suspended at least eight games this season and has proven a locker-room cancer at his previous three stops. Gordon is considered a good teammate but simply has some addiction problems.

Last year, Gordon played in five games with Seattle – he began the season with New England -- and had little impact with seven catches for 139 yards. However, Gordon is still just 29 and leads the NFL in yards per reception since 2012 (17.2). He was arguably the best wideout in the NFL in 2013 when he caught 87 passes for 1,646 yards and nine TDs with the Browns. Gordon hasn't played more than 11 games in a season since due to a whopping six suspensions. He had been living and training in Seattle.

There could be one last piece of business for the Seahawks ahead of Week 1: Re-signing Jadeveon Clowney too. Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports said on a radio show Thursday that if Clowney is going to sign anywhere, it likely would happen in the next 48 hours and that the former No. 1 overall pick will return to Seattle or sign with Tennessee (if he even wants to play in 2020).

Last year with the Seahawks, Clowney had 31 tackles, three sacks, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, one interception and a touchdown in 13 games. While Clowney is familiar with Seattle and its coaching staff/scheme, the Titans have a lot more salary-cap space than the Seahawks do.
