Rams vs. Colts NFL Week 4 odds, props: Anthony Richardson nearing return from concussion as Indy's betting season win total rises to 6.5

Colts QB Anthony Richardson is likely to play Sunday vs. the Rams.

The Indianapolis Colts are a surprising 2-1 and already halfway to their 2022 regular-season win total, and nearly halfway to their original 2023 betting season win total. It appears the Colts were wise in choosing raw but mega-athletic quarterback Anthony Richardson at No. 4 overall in this year's draft, as he played well before missing Week 3 with a concussion. Gardner Minshew led an upset of Baltimore last Sunday, but Richardson is expected to play this weekend at home vs. the Rams. Indy is -1 on the SportsLine consensus.

Despite missing a chunk of Week 2 and all of Week 3, Richardson is still a +450 second-favorite with Houston's C.J. Stroud to win NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year behind Atlanta running back Bijan Robinson (+300). It's certainly too early to say that Carolina goofed in taking Bryce Young at No. 1 overall instead of Stroud or Richardson, but the latter two certainly have been better so far and Young is dealing with his own injury.

Richardson was hurt early in the second quarter of Week 2 in Houston, but not before scoring two rushing touchdowns. He was 21 years and 118 days old that day, becoming the youngest quarterback in the Super Bowl era to record multiple rushing touchdowns in a single game, surpassing Lamar Jackson (21 years and 357 days old in Week 17 of the 2018 season). Richardson also had a rushing TD in Week 1 and is the third quarterback ever with three rushing touchdowns in his first two career games, joining Daunte Culpepper and Jack Thompson.

While Richardson officially remains in the concussion protocol, he is set to practice Wednesday and take first-team reps, which tells you the Colts believe he will be cleared. It would be the first time he has practiced since the concussion. Coach Shane Steichen also mentioned that center Ryan Kelly will practice Wednesday, but like Richardson, he is still in the concussion protocol.

Richardson would be the ninth rookie to start against the Rams in the Aaron Donald era (since 2014). The previous eight went 1-7, throwing seven TDs and seven interceptions. The lone rookie to beat the Donald-led Rams was Tua Tagovailoa in 2020.

Los Angeles is on a short week, though, after losing in Cincinnati on Monday and might be down two starting offensive linemen. L.A. is just 6-14 in 20 games since winning Super Bowl 56, the worst 20-game record following a Super Bowl win all-time.

Oddsmakers have been impressed by the Colts in the early going, as their season win total has been raised from 5.5 to 6.5 following Sunday's victory. Indianapolis looks to end a six-game home losing streak and hasn't lost seven in a row at home since 1991. The Colts already have more road wins this season (2) than all of last season (1).

There won't be any individual Richardson props until he's cleared. That Indy is the highest-scoring team on Sunday is +3000. The Rams are +2500. That it's the highest-scoring game is +1100 and lowest-scoring is +1200.
