Rams vs. Bengals 2022 Super Bowl 56 MVP odds: Von Miller can make defensive history, favored for sack; bettors bullish on Aaron Donald
We've written a few stories already on Super Bowl 56 MVP odds and reminded everyone that one of the two quarterbacks, the Rams' Matthew Stafford or Bengals' Joe Burrow, probably will win it as QBs have won Super Bowl MVP 31 times. There is one player in this game who has a Super Bowl MVP under his belt and that is Rams pass-rusher Von Miller. He's +4000 at Caesars Sportsbook to win a second on Feb. 13 and that would be historic.
Back in Super Bowl 50 when Miller's Denver Broncos were solid underdogs against the one-loss Carolina Panthers, Miller was +2000 to win MVP honors of that game. He did as the Broncos prevailed 24-10 in Peyton Manning's final NFL game with Miller recording 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, two quarterback hits and a pass defended. Both strip-sacks led to Denver touchdowns. Miller became the 10th defensive MVP in Super Bowl history and joined Malcolm Smith (Seahawks), Ray Lewis (Ravens) and Chuck Howley (Cowboys) as the only linebackers to earn the distinction.
No defensive player has won it since and no defender has won Super Bowl MVP honors twice or really even come close. The five multiple winners are all quarterbacks. Miller also could join Tom Brady (Patriots and Bucs) as the only players to win Super Bowl MVP for two teams.
Miller joined the Rams around the NFL Trade Deadline and had 31 tackles and five sacks with a forced fumbled with Los Angeles in eight games. He has 12 tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble in three playoff games. Miller is priced -152 to get a sack and +120 for no.
The best defensive player in Super Bowl 56 is Miller's teammate and fellow future Hall of Famer in Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald. The three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year was +2500 to win MVP honors but is down to +1800 by taking the most action of any defender.
"There's been a good amount of action on Donald so far," said Adam Pullen, Assistant Director of Trading at Caesars Sportsbook. "People like to bet the top defensive players just because they're juicy odds. It's hard for them to win MVP, not that many have. But if any defensive player were to win, he's obviously at the top of the list."
Donald is -192 for at least one sack and +150 for no. He has totaled 14 this season including playoffs.Â
