Odell Beckham Jr. odds: Browns not likely to deal receiver by NFL trade deadline but not expected back in 2022

The NFL Trade Deadline is Tuesday afternoon and Odell Beckham Jr. is expected to stay put.

The NFL Trade Deadline is 4 p.m. Eastern and it's looking more and more like the Cleveland Browns will not trade former Pro Bowl receiver Odell Beckham Jr. even though it's clear he's simply not a fit on that club any longer. No team wants Beckham's contract, which includes a $15 million cap hit in 2022 and 2023. SportsLine does offer NFL odds on whether OBJ is with the Browns to open the 2022 season and no is a heavy favorite.

While Beckham is signed through the 2023 season, he has zero guaranteed money left after 2021 on his five-year, $90 million contract. Thus, the Browns could walk away in the offseason without a dead-cap hit and wipe his $15 million off the books but can't do so this year without a trade.

Beckham had just one catch for 6 yards in Sunday's home loss to Pittsburgh. He has two games with more than 75 yards receiving all season (high of 79), ranks 151st in the league in receptions per target and 139th in receptions per route run. Only three times in 59 games with the Giants did Beckham have receiving yardage in the 20s or fewer before being traded. He has done that four times in six games this year.

Beckham's father posted a video following Sunday's game highlighting different times when Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield didn't throw the ball to Beckham when he was open in recent weeks. Someone who commented on the post claimed Mayfield "just doesn't wanna get Odell the ball." Beckham Sr. responded with three check mark emojis.

LeBron James is friends with Beckham this morning tweeted "OBJ will show again why he's special. WR1 #FreeOBJ."

The Browns have just seven TD passes all year – Mayfield has been playing through a serious left shoulder injury – and Beckham has none. He dropped one sure TD earlier in the season and Mayfield has missed him several times.

One AFC general manager told Yahoo! Sports this about Beckham trade rumors: "Nobody is going to want that salary unless [the Browns] are going to pay part of what's left on it [this season]. And even if Cleveland is willing to do that, which they probably aren't, nobody is giving up anything for him. I'll be very surprised if they can move him for anything."

Beckham currently carries an $8 million cap hit being about halfway through the season. He had 1,035 receiving yards in his first campaign with Cleveland but has managed just 551 in 13 games over the last season and a half – OBJ missed large chunk of last season and a few early games this one recovering from a torn ACL. Cleveland is a 3-point underdog this Sunday in Cincinnati.

There has been one semi-notable trade Tuesday as of this writing: The Steelers sent outside linebacker Melvin Ingram to the Chiefs in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick.
