Chiefs trade Tyreek Hill to Dolphins odds fallout: Miami, Tua Tagovailoa get NFL futures bumps; Kansas City's favored role in AFC West slips

Tyreek Hill has been traded from Kansas City to Miami.

How much fun has the past few weeks been in the NFL with all the trades? Since 2016, the most touchdowns scored in the league by a wide receiver are 69 by Davante Adams and then 67 by Tyreek Hill (some of Hill's non-receiving). With Hill's shocking trade from Kansas City to Miami on Wednesday, they have both been dealt in the past five days. The Dolphins' NFL futures odds at Caesars Sportsbook across the board improved by adding Hill and Kansas City's got a bit longer in losing the most electric play in the NFL.

The New York Jets reportedly offered Kansas City a better package and Hill more money in a new contract, but he wanted to go to South Florida. The Fins gave up a 2022 first-round pick (No. 29), second-round pick and fourth-round pick, plus fourth- and sixth-round picks in the 2023 draft. The Jets reportedly offered picks No. 35, 38 and 69 this year. Hill got a four-year, $120 million extension, including $72.2 million guaranteed from Miami, making him the highest-paid wide receiver in NFL history just days after Adams got that title from his new team, the Raiders.

Dolphins assistant general manager Marvin Allen was the Chiefs' director of college scouting from 2013-2017 when Kansas City drafted Hill with the No. 165 pick in 2016 out of West Alabama.

Miami has had a spectacular offseason offensively on paper as on top of adding Hill also has brought in receiver Cedrick Wilson, offensive linemen Terron Armstead and Connor Williams, running backs Chase Edmonds and Raheem Mostert, and franchise-tagged excellent tight end Mike Gesicki. The Fins of course also have a new head coach in ex-Niners offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel.

It's clearly now-or-never for QB Tua Tagovailoa in 2022 – incidentally, his odds to win 2022 NFL MVP went from +15000 to +10000 with the Hill addition. Miami's odds to win Super Bowl 57 dropped from +7000 to +4000, its odds to take the AFC from +3500 to +2000, and to win the AFC East from +675 to +400, now a co-second favorite with New England behind Buffalo (-185).

Kansas City made perhaps a pre-emptive strike on losing Hill earlier this offseason by signing former Steelers receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and is hosting ex-Packers wideout Marquez Valdez-Scantling for a visit today. MVS is a good deep threat, but no one is Hill.

The Chiefs have won the AFC West – now the NFL's best division with the Broncos (Russell Wilson), Chargers (Khalil Mack, JC Jackson) and Raiders (Adams) all getting much better this offseason -- six straight seasons and are still +175 favorites but up from +130. To win the AFC, Kansas City went from +450 to +500 and for Super Bowl 57 from +850 to +900.

Miami and Kansas City don't play in the 2022 regular season.
