49ers vs. Patriots NFL Week 7 spread, betting odds: Raheem Mostert leads long list of sidelined players for San Francisco

The San Francisco 49ers continue to get bad injury news.

The San Francisco 49ers lost just three games in the 2019 regular season on the way to reaching the Super Bowl. Yet, despite the fact the Niners are 3-3 through six games this year Coach Kyle Shanahan might be doing an even better job considering arguably no team – maybe the Eagles – has been hammered worse by injuries. The 49ers will be without at least two more starters, led by running back Raheem Mostert, for Sunday's game at equally desperate New England (2-3). The Pats are 2.5-point favorites on the William Hill NFL odds.

Mostert has been limited to four games this year due to injury but has been very effective when in there as he's averaging 5.94 yards per carry -- second among all running backs in the NFL behind Miles Sanders (6.1) -- off a breakout 2019 season that got him a nice raise in the offseason.

However, in last Sunday night's 24-16 win over the Rams, Mostert suffered a high-ankle sprain that will likely keep him out at least three games presuming the team puts him on injured reserve as expected. Week 6 was Mostert's second game back from an MCL sprain that caused him to miss Weeks 3 and 4.

Jerick McKinnon and rookie JaMycal Hasty likely will fill in by committee at least this week. They combined for 15 carries for 55 yards in Sunday's win. Tevin Coleman is still unavailable with a knee injury of his own.

Meanwhile, center Ben Garland has a calf strain that likely will also land him on injured reserve. Shanahan said Hroniss Grasu would replace Garland until center Weston Richburg can return from his own injury. Richburg, who remains on the PUP list, is not expected to return until Week 12 at the earliest. Garland has started the past five games with Richburg out.

Offensive tackle Trent Williams (ankle) and safety Jaquiski Tartt (groin) are also in jeopardy of missing the New England game. Linebacker Kwon Alexander (ankle) didn't play in Week 6 against the Rams and neither did cornerback Richard Sherman (calf), and he's not close. Alexander's status for New England is TBA. Defensive ends Nick Bosa and Dee Ford are both on injured reserve, with Bosa done for the season. Ford might be.

Since the start of last season, San Francisco is 6-0-0 against the spread as an underdog (5-1 SU), the longest active streak in the NFL.
