Unders finally showed up in Saturday preseason action but it wasn't a tidal wave (6 overs and 5 unders), and two of the unders were very fortunate (Patriots-Vikings and Cards-Broncos). "August NFL overs" are still worth a look after both of these Sunday night sides cleared their respective numbers very comfortably last week. The Bears expect to give first-stringers like Caleb Williams a run on Sunday night, but backup QBs Tyson Bagent and Case Keenum both moved the offense sufficiently last Sunday vs. Miami. Meanwhile, don't expect to see Josh Allen on Sunday night for the Bills, though Mitch Trubisky (back in Chicago), Mike While and Shane Buechele combined for over 300 pass yards last week vs. the Giants. Totals for Week 2 of the preseason are up after last week’s explosion of points, and I’m suspect of any total above 41, especially here where we know one team won’t put its star quarterback on the field. I also like fading high totals in matchups where the teams held joint practices during the week, as those are largely prioritized by teams and there’s a natural inclination to take the foot off the gas for the preseason game that follows. What would this total be if these teams played in the regular season and Josh Allen was confirmed to miss the game. Wouldn’t 41.5 seem about right, maybe even on the high side? If so, a preseason game should by nature be lined lower.
