Cowboys All-Pro LT Tyron Smith is expected to play, but he obviously rushed back from his groin injury and won't be 100 percent. Without Sean Lee, the Dallas defense will be highly vulnerable again. The Chargers wisely rested key players in the fourth quarter of Sunday's blowout win over Buffalo. They'll be ready to win for the fifth time in seven games.
The Cowboys looked bad against two decent teams the past two weeks with the main cause being no Ezekiel Elliott, Tyron Smith or Sean Lee. Smith and Lee are questionable this week. What I can't get out of my head was Dallas laying down like dogs at home against the Eagles in the most important game of its season. They have no offensive gameplan without Elliott and Dez Bryant still doesn't have a 100-yard game receiving. Dallas has stayed Under in its last three and despite the Chargers scoring 54 in their last game, Under is the way to go here.
Put a big, fat asterisk next to the easy Over for the Chargers last Sunday. Several scores in their 54-24 wipeout win were attributed to a half-dozen L.A. interceptions against an overwhelmed rookie QB. The Bolts’ four previous games produced 21, 37 (in overtime), 33 and 34 points. Their pass rush is sublime, and it sets up well against dizzied Dallas. Just as left OT Tyron Smith is on the verge of returning from an injury layoff, right OT La’El Collins (back) might be sidelined. The Cowboys are not destitute at RB without suspended Ezekiel Elliott, but the drop-off is considerable. L.A. road games have gone Under in six of the last eight, and another is in store because the Cowboys seem unlikely to repair their offense with just three days between games.
Good on the Chargers for absolutely dominating a Bills team starting a rookie quarterback completely across the country. The Cowboys are the better team, and they should have Tyron Smith back in the fold after a two-week absence. Dallas will do enough offensively at home on Thanksgiving to take down Los Angeles on a short week.
The Chargers are going to be a popular play after what they did to the Bills, but I like the Cowboys to win this game. Their offensive line, which could have Tyron Smith back, should dominate the Chargers' poor rush defense and put Dak Prescott in manageable situations on third down. The Chargers haven't been a high-scoring offense most of the season, and an improving Cowboys D can hold them at bay at home. Going on the road on Thursdays has been tough for non-elite teams, and the Chargers aren't in that class yet despite their recent run. Cowboys find a way to win.
