Heat vs. Lakers Wednesday NBA injury report, odds: Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro game-time decisions (spread hints they will play); Anthony Davis probable
It's a rematch of the 2020 NBA Finals (in the bubble) on Wednesday night and perhaps a preview of the 2022 version as well as the Miami Heat visit the LeBron James-less Los Angeles Lakers. The Heat are currently -5 at Caesars Sportsbook but could be missing two of their best players in Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro. The Lakers are listing Anthony Davis as probable. True fact: Players will gut out certain injuries to play at the Lakers that perhaps they wouldn't in most other opposing gyms in the NBA simply because Lakers games draw mega-Hollywood stars. It's a major event. The only other similar situation would be at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Thus, it's more likely than not that Adebayo (left knee bruise) and Herro (lower back tightness) will play. Coach Erik Spoelstra said both will warm up with the intent to play and that he expects them to be available. Adebayo is averaging 18.3 points and a team-leading 11.8 rebounds and is critical to Miami's second-rated defense, which allows just 101.5 points per game.
Herro made a name for himself in that 2020 bubble, regressed last year but has come back with a vengeance this season in averaging 20.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.0 assists off the bench. He's the massive +125 favorite to win Sixth Man of the Year – no one else is below +1300. That Miami is -5 means oddsmakers believe Adebayo and Herro are playing and in fact it already has moved up from -4.5.
Miami is looking to avoid its first two-game skid of the young season as it was a short favorite on Monday in Denver but looked flat in a 113-96 loss. Markieff Morris was in a tussle with Nuggets center Nikola Jokic and will miss this one with whiplash. He plays about 19 minutes per night. Fellow forward PJ Tucker is questionable.
The Lakers have the longest injury report pretty much nightly – LeBron won't be back anytime soon. Davis has been listed on the report ahead of every game but has played in all of them, averaging 23.9 points and 11.1 rebounds. Davis is -140 for a double-double tonight and is given Over/Under totals of 25.5 points and 10.5 rebounds. Rajon Rondo, who gets about 15 minutes per game off the bench, is questionable. The Lakers are 0-6 ATS in their last six games vs. a team with a winning record.
The Heat swept the Lakers last regular season but are 10-23 all-time in L.A.
