NASCAR odds: Ryan Preece huge long shot for Toyota 500 despite pole position
There is rare weekday NASCAR action Wednesday night with the Toyota 500 from Darlington.
Because of the coronavirus, there is no qualifying for Wednesday's NASCAR Cup Series Toyota 500 race -- note that it's 500 kilometers and not 500 miles -- at Darlington Raceway in South Carolina. Instead, NASCAR inverted the Top 20 finishers from Sunday's Real Heroes 400 at the track to set the field for Wednesday. And that means relative unknown Ryan Preece starts on the pole, but he's still a huge +75000 long shot on the moneyline odds at William Hill sportsbook to win. The race will start at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on Fox.
This is only the second full season on the Cup Series for Preece, who drives the No. 37 Chevrolet of JTG Daugherty Racing. Preece has yet to win a race and really hasn't even come close with a single Top-5 finish in his career. That was a third last year at Talladega in the Geico 500.
This year, Preece's best finish has been 18th in Phoenix early in the season. His average finish has been 26.8. Preece has won twice on the Xfinity Series, though, in his career.
Kevin Harvick won Sunday's race, his 50th career win in the Cup Series and second all-time at Darlington. His average finish at the track is 6.4, which is second-best among all active drivers behind Erik Jones (5.5). Harvick is a +450 favorite at William Hill to win again Wednesday.
He has won back-to-back a handful of times in his career but not within three days of each other. Harvick will start 20th Wednesday in his No. 4 Ford. Harvick will be running the exact same car from Sunday: "Bringing the same car back. Not even taking springs and shocks off the car. Just taking it like we ended but will fix a few things," crew chief Rodney Childers said.
Harvick is -115 to finish higher than Kyle Busch (-105), who was the favorite entering Sunday's race and finished 26th – which is where he will start Wednesday. Busch is +600 to win Wednesday. He has one victory (2008) in 16 career starts at Darlington with an average finish of 12.0.Â
