Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and an additional run scored in Sunday's 5-3 win over Atlanta.
Sportsline curse or whatever, Arizona needs this one as they sit 2.5 games back of the final NL Wild Card spot. Ryan Gusto has yet to win road game this season, owning a 4.45 road ERA. Merrill Kelly has been inconsistent at best, owning a 5.83 home ERA. He’s already faced the Marlins once this season, allowing two runs in six innings in a losing effort. The Diamondbacks are hitting .272 over their last seven days as compared the Miami’s .249.
I agree wholeheartedly with No. 1 MLB expert Eric Cohen -- stinks for you Eric with my rough run of late on site -- that Arizona can't lose tonight at home after falling in extras last night to the Fish. The good news for the Snakes is that Miami's bullpen is shredded after that and having put closer Pete Fairbanks on the IL ahead of the game. Arizona's Merrill Kelly is having a down year (9-13, 4.97 ERA) but has been a big-game pitcher in the past and has looked much better in his past three. With the home team off on Thursday, just about every arm is available behind Kelly as you gotta have this to stay within shouting distance of the Padres.
This is a must win for Arizona after falling in extra innings on Tuesday night. The Diamondbacks sit 2.5 games behind the Padres for the final National League Wild Card spot, but finish the regular season at Petco Park for a three game series next weekend. Marlins starter Ryan Gusto has a 5.91 ERA in two starts this month and while Merrill Kelly doesn't inspire a ton of confidence from the Diamondbacks side, the team has won two of his last three starts. Quite simply, I have a hard time seeing Arizona lose this series when so much is on the line, so I guess I'll have to pay to find out.
