Starting Tobias Myers may just be all to setup an extra lefty in the Cubs lineup, with hopes that David Peterson can enter the same after a couple of innings. I say may because it isn't confirmed but it sounds like they still plan to use Peterson today at some point. Regardless, Fransisco Alvarez is sitting and he's one of the only bats that's done anything lately. Yesterday really was the spot for the Mets to pickup a win behind their ace but, no dice, and at this price, I'll take the Cubs to finish off the sweep with an even thinner Mets lineup out there on this Sunday.
Tobias Myers gets a spot start for the Mets. He’s capable, but he’s also likely to not go more than 3-4 innings and the New York bullpen has a 5.70 ERA the last two weeks. Plus, the Cubs are hitting the ball. The Mets are not. Cubbies starter Javier Assad blanked the Rays over 5.2 IP in his first outing and gave up nine runs in his second. Both were on the road; he’s been lights out at Wrigley the last few seasons.
I put a post-it on my computer to remind myself: Sundays are wacky in MLB (and take vitamins). I'll be honest in that I don't like this all that much so will do a half. But I can't not play something with how truly broken the Mets are. If it was anyone but Javier Assad starting for the Cubs -- even someone named Bartman (been able to joke about that without crying since 2016 anyways) -- then we crush. But obviously it wouldn't be so cheap. And that's really all this is. I would like to see the New York tabloid headlines with the Mets' on an 11-game skid coming home. Don't know all the NY-area waterways but guessing a spin on Ocean's Eleven.
