Bryce Elder is facing a Phillies team that walked four times against him earlier this year, also throwing in 10 hits and nine runs in a thumping of the young righty. He's walked at least two batters in all seven of his 2nd half starts, and I'll be surprised if the streak ends tonight. Elder has been worse for walks against lefties and these Philly lefties all walk around 10% or better on the year vs. righties. To make matters worse, Alfonso Marquez is set to be behind the plate and he profiles as one of MLB's most hitter friendly umpires. Elder should see a starter's workload, so I like this as a parlay piece, and have 0.5u on 3+ walks at +175 on DK.
Atlanta has shown more offense and fared better in recent weeks, though you might know it from last night. Yet there are still soft spots at the back of their jerry-rigged pitching rotation, as Cal Quantrill's ineffectiveness confirmed last night. The problem for Atlanta is that Friday starter Bryce Elder, for the most part, hasn't been much more effective than Quantrill, as his 6.12 ERA suggests. August has actually been a "good" month for Elder, if you can consider a 5.64 ERA as good (compared to Elder's 7.91 ERA in July and 8.25 ERA in June, we suppose it is, but we digress). The Phils, with Kyle Schwarber swinging such a heavy bat, might take care of the nine runs by themselves. Play Braves-Phillies "Over"
