Maybe no air left in the Angels balloon, with the season effectively ended after the Cubs swept the weekend series at the Big A. So much for any momentum after that rousing sweep over the Dodgers; the Halos have lost 7 of 9 since, and the offense was back into old bad habits vs. the Cubs, swinging for the fences on every pitch. Holding off the A's for 4th place in the West might even be a chore. Meanwhile the Rangers are alive again after sweeping out the Guardians, and let's see if Jacob deGrom can do a bit better vs. the Angels' free-swingers after being touched up for a 6.97 ERA in two earlier meetings this season. Probably lean push here with no Marcus Semien for Texas, but it has something to play for and is 14 games over .500 at home. Jacob deGrom returns to the hill after having a start skipped so he might have a little bit more on his fastball. DeGrom has a 2.11 home ERA. The Angels are playing out the string and well under .500 away. Jose Soriano has been hit hard in two of three August starts.
