It was a triumphant return to active duty last Wednesday for Hunter Greene, who spun three-hit ball thru six shutout innings for the Reds in last Wednesday's win over the Phillies. Cincy continued its playoff push last night in Anaheim and now Greene gets his shot vs. an impatient Angels lineup that played into the hands of Brady Singer last night. Meanwhile, Kyle Hendricks looks like he could be vulnerable on the mound for the Halos, as his 6.08 ERA in three August starts indicates, and the Angels have looked listless while losing three of four since the rousing sweep of the Dodgers last week. Play Reds on Run Line

Last week Hunter Greene came off the IL and threw 85 pitches in six innings, allowing three hits and striking out six. He recorded 16 whiffs on 44 swings, leveraging that fastball and slider combo. The same approach should work against an Angels team that has struggled to avoid strikeouts on those pitches. An underlying 15% swinging strike rate to both sides of the plate is stellar for Greene, and he looks healthy, with his fastball velocity reaching 101 mph last start (averaging 99 mph). Nine swings and misses came from the slider (50% rate) on that night, and double digit strikeouts is well within reason if that pitch performs like that again. Laddering 8,9,10 Ks.
