Curious where this number would open; I projected -165, so not far off (and expect to rise). Say that because the Giants have playoff hopes but starting a pitcher who should not be starting for a team on Aug. 8 with playoff hopes: rookie Kai-Wei Teng (0-1, 13.50). But we wouldn't get a generous number without him. The Nats have squat to play for, played Thursday before a long trip (Giants off) and have dropped seven of eight. Jake Irvin has a 5.06 ERA away. This is a rare one basically ignoring the starting pitchers. The Giants' starter anyways. Teng likely has a short leash with a rested bullpen. By the way, 8/8/88 is a massive date in my sports memory. Can anyone guess why?
