As quickly as it appeared, the Tigers' recent 1-12 skid is now in the rearview mirror after three straight wins by a combined 27-7. It has helped the past two days that visiting Arizona has looked spent force, perhaps distracted by ongoing trade deadline rumors, but now having lost seven of eight and heading nowhere fast. Chris Paddack makes his first start on the mound for the Tigers since coming over from the Twins in trade, with his most-recent effort last Wednesday vs. the Dodgers in LA one of his best of the season, allowing just 1 run thru 6 IP at Chavez Ravine. The current Arizona trajectory is also very much downward (1-7 the last eight). Play Tigers on the Run Line.
Detroit has won the last three games in a row, while Arizona has given up. The Diamondbacks have lost seven of their last eight, and in their last five games, they have looked beaten and withdrawn from offense by scoring four runs total. There's no threat at all by the Diamondbacks offense. They're sulking by knowing the team has given up on them to make the playoffs this year. It'll probably last another week, and then they'll come back to their normal hitting regime. Arizona comes with Ryne Nelson, whom the Diamondbacks have won seven of his last eight starts. Tough competition, but Detroit is on the right side of momentum in this spot. Tigers to win.
