He's back with Detroit! It's Jack Flaherty, after a detour thru LA at the trade deadline. It would net Flaherty a World Series, but he's come full circle back to the Tigers this season, and for good measure pitching against the Dodgers in his hometown tonight. The Tigers lost close on Thursday because of two swings by Teoscar Hernandez and Shohei Ohtani, but AJ Hinch encouraged that his team clawed from behind against the Dodgers' bullpen with a chance to tie the game in the 9th. That LA bullpen might not be as airtight as Dave Roberts would like. Yoshinobu Yamamoto gets his second start after working one of the Tokyo games vs. the Cubs, though only for five innings. As we know, Freddie Freeman is a doubles machine and I love him at home vs. a starter who he knows quite well as a former teammate and who he hits quite well. No Mookie Betts in the lineup, but this other lefty slugger can help pick up the slack. Freeman is 6/14 off Flaherty and you can't put people on base at the top of this lineup and survive. Even without Mookie you have to pitch to Freddie and he knows how to slice the ball into every nook and cranny of this ballpark to find extra bases. The Dodgers not having much interest in bringing Flaherty back was pretty telling. Get ready for regression.
