Cincinnati starter Nick Lodolo is a 24-year-old former first-rounder with well-above-average stuff. Over his past two starts, he has allowed just one earned run in 12 innings. The Brewers are in the bottom five in batting against lefties. Milwaukee starter Aaron Ashby has been below average in five of his last seven starts, and Milwaukee's bullpen has been below average since June 15.
The Brewers returned home Friday and ended their four-game losing streak with a 5-1 victory over the Reds. It was a straight-forward evening that didn't test a Brewers bullpen that has had its issues since Josh Hader was dealt. With Aaron Ashby on the mound for Milwaukee tonight, there should be opportunities for the Reds to capitalize against that bullpen. Take the big underdog here as the Reds battle for young starter Nick Lodolo.
Shoutout to Kenny White for bringing this play to my attention as it was his Best ML Bet on our CBS Sports HQ appearance this morning. Highly recommend watching if you want some valuable information on plays that aren't necessarily official. I completely agree with everything he mentioned and I want to get some action on this game myself. When the Brewers bats struggle, it tends to be against lefties. Nick Lodolo has put together a couple really good starts as well, including his last start against the Orioles lineup before they traded Trey Mancini where he went six innings with just one earned run. The Reds hit lefties much better than they do righties even without Tommy Pham and Brandon Drury. Aaron Ashby has also been very hit or miss this season and the Brewers bullpen behind him is very suspect. I like the value on the Reds on the road here.
